When I opened the cartoon boxes, a pair of shinny new JBL4310 standing proudly in front of me, what a superb craftsmanship without a trace of refurnished residue. Kenji San has successfully transformed my 40 years old 4310 into a new and yet stylish JB Lansing speaker icon. Kenji San not only renew the outlook of the speakers, he also changed the color of the speaker unit mounting panel from the original black into the unique JBL navy blue which is only available to elder brothers of JBL 43 series of studio monitors, and I believe this is the first pair of 4310 that can share such an honor.
I promptly connected the 4310 with my system, when the first music note came into my ears, oh yes, that’s the unique JBL sound that I’m so familiar with. Basically, there is no change in sound characteristics after the renewal process only it sounds a bit more transparent, the bass is tighter and the high is smoother. I know the speakers need some time to burn-in because the internal wiring, the speaker-posts, tone control pots, crossover capacitors and the absorbents have all been changed. Now the ‘new’ 4310’s have been singing for two weeks, it sounds better and better everyday. At first, I was a bit worried for changing the internal wires and the crossover capacitors would adversely affect the sound, rendering the unique JBL sound disappeared. In fact, just as Kenji San said, it will only enhance the sound quality without disturbing its original characteristics, if the right parts are used.
I am now confident that my 4310 will continuously bring beautiful music in the coming years, no need to worry about parts failure, sound deteriorating due to aging etc. Lastly I truly thankful to Kenji San, his valuable opinions, state-of-art craftsmanship and impeccable service level, a job well accomplished.
